The area Legislator, convened the highly fruitful Ward meeting in Nyakomba, Ward 11. The event was marked by the appreciation expressed by the community for the refurbishment and expansion of the 600-hectare Nyakomba Irrigation Scheme, which was funded by the Ministry of Agriculture through a grant from the Japanese Embassy.
Thousands thronged the venue where the area Legislator, Hon. Sanyatwe, engaged the community, appreciating the efforts of the Second Republic led by President His Excellency Dr. ED Mnangagwa.
The expanded irrigation scheme has brought significant benefits to the families in the area, with chillies for export markets now being grown among other crops.
In addition to the irrigation scheme, the community has also benefited from various initiatives championed by Hon. Sanyatwe. Women’s groups, survivors of gender-based violence, and widows have all been recipients of a bakery initiative that has been in existence since 2022.
Nyakomba Ward 11 has also seen the successful implementation of a constituency-wide road rehabilitation and maintenance program led by the Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (RIDA), with support from the office of the Member of Parliament. “All roads in Nyakomba, Ward 11 have been rehabilitated successfully and are in excellent shape now,” Hon. Sanyatwe reported.
The community’s appreciation for the improvements in the area was echoed by Councilor Nyamutenha of the ZANU PF Party, who serves as the Ward Councilor for Nyakomba.
Councilor Nyamutenha expressed gratitude for the hands-on support received from Hon. Sanyatwe and President Mnangagwa, stating that the lives of Ward 11 residents have been significantly improved.
Additionally, the Nyakomba Clinic has been installed with solar power, ensuring uninterrupted access to clean electricity, and Chatindo Secondary School has received laptops and internet connectivity through the Presidential computerization programme, all thanks to President Mnangagwa.
While the community has greatly benefited from these initiatives, Councilor Nyamutenha noted that the three villages outside the Nyakomba Irrigation Scheme among them Bariri village and other still require attention in terms of water availability, either through incorporation into the scheme or the drilling of additional boreholes and the establishment of nutritional gardens.
The successful implementation of these projects in Nyakomba, Ward 11 is a testament to the commitment of the Second Republic under the leadership of President Mnangagwa to improving the lives of Zimbabweans across the country in line with the mantra – Leaving no one and no place behind.
